Welcome to the web site of Anna Keiller ...
I am a ceramic artist and live and work in Hastings Old Town on the south coast of England sixty miles from London. I have been working in clay for over twenty years and and I do installations as well as one off pieces. I show my work in galleries and art fairs and occasionally in magazines such as Ceramic Review and Country Living.
All the work displayed is for sale but feel free to commission your own individual piece by emailing me at studio@annakeiller.co.uk. You are also most welcome to visit my studios.
The torsos are less than an inch thick and therefore light enough to hang from hooks fitted at the back. There is enough space between the torso and the wall to fit a small light, turning it into a wall sconse. They can be hung inside or outside in the garden, in a tree or on a wall. In my blog http://annakeiller.wordpress.com I explain how they are made.
The Fat Birds are hand coiled and come in many different shapes and sizes. They are in general quite heavy and the only part that is glazed is their eyes and combs - the rest of the colours come from smoke fired oxides.
The Household Gods are smoke fired, slab built sculptures; a modern take on the Roman deities Lares and Penates that used to protect the house and the family in ancient Rome. Each family had their own set of house gods and they were kept on a high shelf away from the floor. Please go to the 'work for sale' section and double click each individual sculpture to see its description.
behind the headline 'Sculpture' you will find many different themes. I have recently added my 'Mood Critters', a series of mixed media sculpture.
The wall plaques are inspired by one of my favourite cartoonist, Edward Gorey.
The colours you see on your screen may vary slightly to the actual colours of the work. The slide show will take you through the work but to see its description you'll need to double click an image.
On the contact page, you can reach me to discuss commissions and other feedback, or arrange a visit to my studio.
Thank you for looking, and I hope you enjoy your visit!
